Historically this area was part of the Manor of Holdenhurst, registered in the Domesday survey in 1086 as belonging to the king. The area was later developed and took its name from the two main protagonists of the time who influenced its formation.

The wealth of architectural influences on display in Talbot Woods reflects the areas historic evolution through the 19th and 20th centuries and demonstrates the social and political developments of the time.

The inter-war years saw the greatest period of development, with designs heavily influenced by the Arts and Crafts and Revivalist Movements, popular at the time.

The area is served by the West Hants Tennis Club, formed in 1926 and previously  home to the British Hardcourt Championships between 1928 and 1983.  During this period many of the sport's greatest stars played on the centre court including Fred Perry, Roy Emerson, Ken Rosewall, Doris Hart, Ann Jones and Virginia Wade.  Recent investment has resulted in a fully refurbished and thriving members Club which is one of the country's finest tournament venues and provides sports and leisure facilities for all to enjoy.

Local residents also benefit from access to quality schooling within the catchment area, including Talbot Heath School, one of Bournemouth's leading independent schools for girls aged 3 to 18 years.  With prestigious homes, spacious grounds, majestic tree lined avenues and excellent recreation and education facilities, the area is highly sought after.
